A strategy on how to maximize Starbucks Bonus Star Bingo

TL;DR: Spend $13 and get $32 worth of stars by following the strategy below.

For those who don't know me, I have a bit of a caffeine addiction. I rarely go a day without a cup of Joe, and sometimes I give into the convenience that Starbucks offers. Generally, however, I loathe the thought of dropping $5 for a cup of coffee. That is, until Starbucks does its promotions to "gamify" my coffee addiction and provide relatively generous awards. Starbucks

Starbucks Bonus Star Bingo went live on March 7th and will be running until April 2nd. The game consists of nine challenges that are listed below:

Sip & Savor: Make a purchase of $6 or more in a single order between 11am and 2pm
Jump the Line: Make 3 separate purchases by ordering ahead through the Starbucks app
Mid-Week Ender: Make one purchase during the week, and another on the weekend
Week-ender: Make 3 separate purchases on a Saturday or Sunday
All Day: Make a purchase before 12pm and after 12pm in a single day
Coffee with Friends: Make a purchase of $12 or more in a single order
Monday Funday: Make a purchase after 2pm on a Monday
Coffee Ranger: Make a purchase at 4 different participating Starbucks stores
Fri-Yay: Make a purchase after 12pm on a Friday

For each challenge completed, you receive 10 stars. Extra stars are awarded for each row or column completed, and 300 stars for completing the board. For those who are curious, you can see the board here.

Strategy:
Now onto how one can maximize the stars awarded for the minimum number of purchases and dollars spent:

1 - $12 Purchase between 11am and Noon from your phone (on either the Friday or Monday) from a different store*
1 - Purchase on Friday after Noon from your phone
1 - Weekend purchase from a different store
1 - Purchase on Monday after 2pm from your phone (from a different store near work)
2 - Weekend purchases from one store near home

*The $12 purchase (which also counts for the $6 purchase) which can be a mug or a bag of coffee. You can also use a code: KEEPBINGOING which can be applied to any of the challenges.

Making the deal even sweeter, Starbucks is offering a promotion between March 14th and March 20th, where you can get an additional 200 stars for visiting 8 times. Stacking these deals together, you can yield over 500 stars, redeemable for at least 4 rewards. The smallest purchase available is a cheese stick or banana which cost $1 each. Assuming you use the code for the $12 purchase, you can spend a total of $13 and receive enough stars to purchase of 4 Power Lunches that are valued at $8 each. That's a net gain $19 at retail prices!

How to get 24 hours out of the day

During my busiest periods, people tend to ask me, "Do you ever sleep?" Of course the answer is yes, but I’ve had to figure out how to effectively tackle all my tasks. I like to use the 80/20 rule as guidance, which basically states that roughly 80% of your outcomes come from 20% of your inputs. In other words, focus on the tasks that will give you the greatest output. (This blog post unpacks the 80/20 rule even further.) I think it’s important to know your weaknesses to ensure you focus on the tasks with the highest returns. Sometimes our most important tasks may not be the ones we have the necessary skills to complete -- or even if they are, we may be inefficient at completing them. I’m honest about which skills I possess to achieve the highest quality out in the shortest period of time. Other tasks where I’m not skilled, such as graphic design and coding, I tend to outsource using various freelancing platforms.

One of my favorite platforms is Fiverr (not a paid endorsement, by the way). This platform enables me to do some pretty wonderful things, from getting logos designed, to researching the best pizza spots in San Francisco. There are thousands of freelancers that can help you on there with virtually any task you can think of. Give it a shot with your first job on me by clicking here.

For tutorials on how to use Fiverr, check out the link below. Or, let me know if you have other platforms you like to use!

The first post on a beloved blog is always supposed to be the hook. I hope that this won't be the basis for why you do, or do not, return to read this. My reason for creating this blog is to capture my experiences as I travel over the next year. It will serve as a quasi-diary for me to be able to share my epic adventures with friends and family.
